Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and improve function. This is done by inserting sterilized, stainless-steel needles (that are as fine as 3 human hairs) into specific points located near or on the surface of the skin which have the ability to alter various biochemical and physiological conditions in order to treat a wide variety of illnesses.
Acupuncture points are areas of designated electrical sensitivity that have been shown to be effective in the treatment of specific health problems. They have been mapped out by the Chinese over a period of over 2000 years.
The basic foundation for Oriental medicine is that there is a life energy flowing through the body which is termed Qi (pronounced chi). This energy flows through the body on channels known as meridians that connect all of our major organs. There are 14 primary meridians located throughout the body. According to Chinese medical theory, illness arises when the cyclical flow of Qi in the meridians becomes unbalanced or is blocked.
Your practitioner will make an acupuncture diagnosis based upon a thorough consultation and examination. The examination includes an assessment of the meridian system utilizing Electro Meridian Imaging (EMI). Electro Meridian Imaging uses an electro-acupuncture probe to test source points (called Yuan points) located on each wrist, ankle, and foot. A computer-generated graph will determine which meridians are out of balance. Specific acupoints are used to balance meridians that have too much qi, too little qi, or imbalances from left to right sides of the body.

Today's Health Tip

 Drink lots of water!
Americans are dehydrated. "We all know that we are supposed to drink between six and eight glasses of water a day, but very few of us do it. Everyone is drinking carbonated drinks and tea and coffee, instead," says J. Michael Flynn, DC. As we learn more about the importance of water—and about the impurities or contaminants that it may carry—many Americans are thinking seriously about what comes out of the tap.
